Linux
celebrates tenth birthday
but you can bet there wasn't so much as a card from Bill Gates...
The OS was first released by Finnish computer science student
Linus Torvalds in August 1991. Torvalds had created a Unix based operating
system in his bedroom while studying at the University of Helsinki.
The operating system is based on the open source principle, which means it
is freely available for anyone and can be modified as long as the source code
is returned back to Linus Torvalds.
